Martha Randolph Carr Martha Randolph Carr

Martha Carr is a popular newspaper and magazine columnist as well as book author. She is best known for her essays, which examine everyday issues from raising a child with a learning disability to learning how to let go. A 1982 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and the 1990 first place winner of the Virginia Press Award, she is a descendant of Thomas Jefferson, and along with her cousin, best selling author, Lucian K. Truscott IV, has worked to recognize all of the Jefferson descendants. Martha’s new book, is "A Place to Call Home" (Prometheus), a memoir about the reemergence of U.S. orphanages; and two novels - the thriller "Wired" (Nimrod House) and "The Sitting Sisters" (Cumberland House). "Martha Randolph Carr invites the reader to a journey through the 'change stories' in those facilities once known as orphanages. You will see the parallels in your own life's victories." Bob Danzig, former CEO of Hearst Newspapers Author and Speaker "I rarely take the time to write to an author who has written a compelling piece even though I might have composed one in my head. Your article about your son in the Washington Post this past weekend prompted me to contact you directly. You've done a brave thing and valuable service to many others out there. Thank you for your honesty and courage." Sherri Weil Development Director Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Carr's book should touch hearts and open minds." Publishers Weekly "Martha Randolph Carr captures the story of a mother's journey to save herself and her son by letting go and finding miracles in America's orphanages. Children's homes are a success story that have been hidden away for too long and Carr's message is inspirational for us all." Lillian Vernon Founder of Lillian Vernon Corporation
