When I married 36 years ago, I signed a legal document that was necessary for the government to say that I was married and I also observed a religious ceremony that told my family and friends that I was committing my life to this other person. Maybe I'm one of these "lofty liberals" but I don't see that telling gay friends that my love is more sacred than theirs nor do I think that it gives me the right to spousal health coverage more than it should for them. My thought is that religion and government are supposed to be separate in this country and that any religion can tell my friends that they may not be married in that church but my government is their government too and they do deserve to be treated as equally as I am. And frankly the divorce lawyers will need to help them separate from their less perfect unions as well. To have hospitals deny someone you love to be able to be at your death bed like many gays had been denied is just not what I would consider American.I really don't think our world is going to change much because we finally have some rational judges. Thou can be straight and yet not narrow.

I am not Gay - but I must say this cartoon made me quite proud. We must love all kinds of people, and treat them all as equal.
