It is my guess that the tainted tomatoes are from Mexico or South America where there are few if any inspection or tests made. the U.s. Needs to put stricter importation rules on NON-U.S. Produce or this problem is bound to repeat itself,,

Sophomoric. More childish than a lot of stuff Steve Benson does.

Maybe you could do another with the heavy hand of the FDA crushing the American tomato grower. While still not providing any clue where it came from. DUH!

Get ready for another "Big Bang"! The "killer" tomato probably came from Mexico (we know how much they like us) or some other not so clean country. This is what we get for "out sourcing" for our produce. This country already treats its farmers like crap to begin with so what else is new?

I'll bet the families whose members died or got really sick weren't farmers either! and the FDA is crushing no one, doing nothing and refusing to tell where the tomatoes are really from.Of course since 90% of them come from Mwxico, it must be be very difficult to know who grew them. I can find no humor in this sick cartoon. Why don't you take your talents and use them to help fight for the American people who get getting the shaft from FDA,congress and all of the other regulatory(Joke, joke) groups who are supposed to protect us??

Report has been that Florida and California tomato businesses was ruined by the tomato illnesses because of the wait on necessary inspections and investigations going on. New report yesterday was Mexican connection responsible. The USA needs to make stricter laws about what comes in from other countries and for the mess in our country where immigrants are working where there is not the proper potty provision and have people there to see these workers wash their hands after being where they were. We have blind persons in congress or not enough people emailing or we have tied our rights up by getting with the WTO. We need to stand up and tell them calmly in numbers in their offices before we get so driven down out of jobs here and are up in arms. Meanwhile, we need to wash tomatoes with dish detergent and make a suds all over them one by one and rub them around till they look like they're going for a shave. Use clean water, and wash and rinse them well. They can be dried and then sliced or used. I do this. I also may not use anymore of the plum tomatoes for awhile. I like to use those with the vines still on them, though I used plum tomatoes often. Detergent wash remember? Wash them carefully, using clean very warm to hot running water to rinse them. J.Rebara

The U.S. needs to depend on it's own produce instead of importing it (and everything else) from a foreign country. I never buy produce from a foreign country and try not to buy anything from any country who hates us.

Hey, great cartoon. But, I don't blame the farmer. Its the USDA and FDA sleeping on the job again. Does the sticker on food saying inspected to the highest quality ,just for fun?

Washing tomatoes and other produce gets it clean but does not remove salmonella - that is INSIDE the vegetable.
