Air safety isn't a joke. And an Airworthiness Directive isn't funny. So why did American act like they were humoring the FAA by completing the inspections after they had ignored them for months, and blamed the reason for the canceled flights on the FAA? That's funny. I thought an AD demanded compliance.

The only reason American did the inspections was to keep the (recently chastened) FAA from grounding their entire MD80 fleet, which they had every right to do.
