Thank you Ms King and Mr Owens, you, like so many Americans of African decent, you put your country first, as the great and honorable man said "I have a dream that my four little children will one day be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character" We have to be closer to that than at any other point of our nation's history. Racists, both black and white, keep trying to pull us back to the time of true racial divide, for one reason or another. We, as is said in your piece, have to look at the factors of the person. Every one of obama's circle of friends and influences are strongly linked to out right communists, radical socialists or worse. He flocks to radical racists, bombers, felons, Kenyan radical Muslims and the PLO. Most religious Americans of African decent would be appalled at the politicking for his potential cousin when in Kenya, whose followers drove African Christians into a church and burned it down with them in it. If the programs for the “poor”, some $10s of trillions in new programs and commitments, with the money coming from the “rich” by the repeal of the “hated” Bush tax cuts. Would he raise the amount of 3.6% (in 2004) for the bottom 50% of earners, to 5.8% in 1990 if the tax cuts “sunset.” It took 10 to 15 years to recuperate our economy after 4 years of the Carter malaise and we simply don’t need another Carter term. Obama is every thing bad about Carter, but “on steroids.”Americans just don’t care what race our president is, he just has to lead us in the right direction.

"Not All African Americans Starry-eyed for Obama": one would hope not; one might even that some of them might actually have realistic expectations. And maybe they're not all having knee-jerk reactions against that wrinkly old white guy.And maybe some people concerned about abortion might be clever enough to realise that such a high rate is not because of some policy of genocide (who is forcing black girls to have abortions? did the Nazis take over?) but because of continued economic disparity, lack of male responsibility, etc., which is not somehow going to change overnight if abortion is suddenly banned. All that might do is kill more girls in back alleys with coat hangers.Otherwise, well: I guess people could continue waiting for all that stuff to trickle down. And why, exactly, is a reverend worried about weakening national defence? and is national defence a major issue in the black community anyway?

Fact is Obamasiah is playing the race card and what an ugly display it is. Very astute of you to point out that McCain is a "wrinkly old white guy", did they teach you that at the Obamasiah website? So it can be assumed that you despise all male, white and old people or just the one. Your logic and intelligence is obviously flawed or the brainwashing is working, either way you are a perfect red soldier.

Fencerider (are you talking to me?): the "wrinkly old white guy" thing is a paraphrase of Paris Hilton. I haven't actually seen the Obama website, but had a good laff at McCain's.I'm not sure how your "logic" leads you to believe I despise any "wrinkly old white guys," since I am only suggesting that maybe some black voters are capable of making thoughtful decisions, and not simply deciding to vote against McCain just because he is old and white. And that should be "logic and intelligence ARE obviously flawed."

Not all African-Americans like Obama, just like not all women are backing Hillary Clinton. It's the media playing the "race card" or the "gender card", and it is up to us in the voting circles to wade through the quagmire and vote for the BEST PERSON for the job. I personally wouldn't care if a candidate was a purple hairy beast with two heads, if he has what I believe are the right ideas for running the country and expresses them clearly, I would definitely vote for the creature.Barack Obama still has not really expressed his platform (if he even has one - it's hard to tell since he flip-flops so much based upon his audience), and so he will probably not earn my vote. Not because he's black or a Democrat, but because I don't think he is the best person for the Executive Office.

I agree with the finding reflected in this article.
